New AdoptUSKids Twitter Handle Just for Professionals

The Dean Family's Adoption Story

After having an adoption fall through, Precious and Melvin Dean of Columbia, South Carolina, struggled to keep the faith in their journey toward adoption. With the help of a strong support network, they renewed their search and are awaiting a placement.

Adoption Tax Credit Form and Instructions Available

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released Form 8839 for qualified adoption expenses, which includes information about the Federal Adoption Tax Credit and the instructions needed to claim it.

Jenny Kilpatrick is AdoptUSKids' March Caseworker of the Month

Jenny Kilpatrick, a senior social worker in adoptions for the Alabama Department of Human Resources in Baldwin County, is our March Caseworker of the Month. After taking on a home study following the departure of a colleague, Kirkpatrick helped retain a frustrated family by providing stellar customer service and making sure their questions were promptly answered.

New Adoption Data Report from Child Welfare Information Gateway

Noting there is no single source or straightforward way of determining the total number of adoptions in the U.S., Child Welfare Information Gateway has released a report titled How Many Children Were Adopted in 2007 and 2008? The report gives the best estimates of total adoptions in 2007 and 2008 and summarizes data collected from a variety of sources, including state courts and bureaus of vital records, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs.
