Young Man in Foster Care Asks Church for Family to Adopt Him

10/18/2013

A Florida church has been inundated with calls since Davion Only, 15 -- a young man in foster care whose mother died in prison recently -- stood up in church last month and pleaded for a family to adopt him, saying "I'll take anyone." The story has gone viral as sites like The Huffington Post, Fox News, and Yahoo! Shine covered the story about the determined young man.

Black and Hispanic children make up the majority of children in foster care, and over 50% of children and youth in foster care are over the age of 10.

Listen to a radio interview with AdoptUSKids' Kathy Ledesma about this story, and visit our Adoption section for families to learn more about adopting from foster care.

UPDATE: The church has since received over 10,000 calls from families interested in adopting Davion, and his caseworker says he will find a family "without a doubt." But there are still many other teenagers in foster care who need permanent homes!
