Interstate Placements
There are two interstate compacts - agreements between states which outline the processes for handling certain common activities - which directly affect adoption.
The Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) governs any situation where a child is placed with certain relatives or other caregivers who permanently reside in a different state than the child and his parents.
The Interstate Compact on Adoption and Medical Assistance (ICAMA) explains the process for state adoption or medical subsidy payments to adoptive parents who live in other states.
