In their own words...

Samantha

I was taken away from by biological mother at the age of six, went through six different placements, and experienced one interrupted placement (a lot to go through for a 13 year old). Well, my story doesn’t stop there...

The day I met my new mom I had butterflies in my stomach because I wanted her to like me. As she got out of her car, I found myself running up to her and giving her a huge hug. Before then I never liked hugging, but there was something different about her. That weekend we went shopping, out to eat, bowling, and she video taped me to show my new sisters back home. I was no longer nervous...she was a keeper!

Two months later, she came to get me for good. She said that I would be in a really big concert in two days with Steven Curtis Chapman. As she went over the song with me at the airport, I realized that this song was my life story. It told of a boy who wanted a family for Christmas. I, like this boy, wanted a family for Christmas too. I told Steven Curtis Chapman my life story and he gave me the biggest hug ever! That Christmas was my best Christmas; I woke up to my forever family and to my first “white” Christmas (I had never seen snow before).

As I got settled into my new home everything seemed to be going great. However, two months later I was told that my biological mother passed away. So, I wanted to write this article in honor of both; my biological mother and my new forever mom.

Since then I have done a lot of cool things. I joined a track team and competed in the 200 meter and long jump events. And, for the first time in my life, I am an honor roll student...yes! I still think about my biological family a lot, but I think this is a better place for me. As my mom always says, “The devil did it for my bad, but God did it for my good!”
