Adoption Resources for Military Families
Military families stationed overseas and within the U.S. are not prohibited from adopting children from the U.S. foster care system.
AdoptUSKids is working to help reduce barriers to adoption for military families. This includes providing free assistance to military families who are seeking to foster or adopt children from foster care, and developing free resources for child welfare agencies on best practices for working with military families.
Families Stationed Within the U.S.
Families stationed within the U.S. can apply to foster and adopt according to the rules of the State where you're stationed. Find out more about State foster care and adoption information where you’re stationed and how to adopt. You can also speak with an adoption specialist by contacting us toll-free at 888-200-4005 or info@adoptuskids.org.
Families Stationed Overseas
Families stationed overseas can talk with a military adoption specialist by contacting us at 303-755-4756 ext. 203 or at Military-Global@adoptuskids.org. There are also three agencies that can assist you with the adoption process (licensing service fees may apply):
Adoption Reimbursement Program
The U.S. Department of Defense has an adoption reimbursement program for qualified military families. These reimbursements can cover medical expenses and other fees related to adopting a child under 18 years of age, but do not include travel.
Find out more information about this program through the National Military Family Association or by contacting your Personnel Support Unit.
