Adoption can be a really great thing if you want a better life. You may feel nervous at first, but when the day finally comes and you are adopted you will feel great. I was adopted by two amazing people, Bob and Kathy Zerr. At first, when my foster parents told me that I was leaving them to be adopted I wasn't sure it was what I wanted, but then I realized having a nice family to look over you and make sure you are safe is worth a few risks.
It was very difficult to be in foster care and keep moving from place to place. I lived in some really nice foster homes and some that were not so nice. Getting attached to people, and then having to move is very hard. Leaving friends and foster parents behind can be very sad, but if you are lucky you can still stay in touch with them.
When I was adopted I had to move from Kansas to South Dakota. When you go to live with your new family it might be close or far from where you used to live. My new family lives far from where I was from. Along with my new parents I got 3 new sisters and 1 new brother. Now there are seven of us. I got adopted along with my sister and brother. We are all really close and get along very well, we share toys with each other, too. Having a nice family like this makes me feel good about myself and makes me feel very happy.
Now that I am adopted, I am getting to do so many fun and new things. I am taking dance, playing basketball and volleyball, and playing the clarinet in band. We go to the movies and spend time with all my new relatives. Sometimes I still get sad, like when I look at a picture of my old family and remember something fun we had done together. Also, sometimes I get angry when I think about all the things my biological mother is missing out on by not being a part of my life. But, by being adopted I have a chance to look forward to my future and make myself a better person. Most people don't understand what it's like to live in a bad place like I did, but adoption has given me a chance to have a new family. They will always love me and support me no matter what I do. Now that I have a better life, I am going to make the best of it. I am going to have fun. Remember God loves you and so will your new family.
