Family Stories About Adoption

The Hinman Family

My goal, since I was a young girl, was to give a home to kids who need one. Rocky and I both wanted a large family, and when we were unable to have children I told him of my dream to have a big house with lots of children who needed a home and a place to call home. Our whole family has been very supportive of our [adoption] journey we have decided to take. We located our kids on the AdoptUsKids website. We have movie nights which are fun. We watch a movie as a family and make a large thing of popcorn. We are also big sports fans and have fun teasing each other about our favorite sports teams. What has surprised us the most about building a family by adoption are the great things we get in return – such as support from the community (which for the most part has been very supportive). Sometimes we get looks, I think because we are a large family, and the other reason is because of the mix of ethnic backgrounds in our family. There are so many kids that need families and our family has grown beyond my dreams with great kids. They can be challenging but what child isn’t? If you really want to adopt, please consider older children or like our children - they were older and a large sibling group. The large sibling groups have a harder time being adopted, especially when trying to keep them together.
