What Caseworkers Need From Foster Parents:

  • Patience
  • Advance notice, when possible
  • Awareness of any crisis, remember that not everything is a crisis
  • Work with the plan, not against it
  • Openness to feedback
  • Willingness to sincerely work with the birthparents
  • Remember that I am busy too

What Foster Parents Need From Caseworkers:

  • Timely return of calls
  • Paperwork completed and submitted
  • Willingness to listen and respond
  • Consistent interaction
  • Resource guidance, when problems arise
  • Emotional support
  • Respect as part of the team
  • Remember that we take care of the child 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we do know the child and his/her behaviors well
